May contain #20, #22 and thistle and #29 in chartreuse. #44 in thistle. With volcano collector display. With volcano collector display. The Series 1 figures also came in four packs, but these only contained #37-#48. Although there was a pattern to these, since I don't own them, nor have I seen them recently, I cannot delineate it. Apparently Matchbox realized that to release them this way was completely pointless, and did not make four packs for the other series. Three of these were: 37. Yellow Ghoul 39. Purple Mad Scientist 46. Red Invisible Man 43. Red The Beast 42. Red Charôn 42. Green Charôn 47. Green Skeleton 43. Purple Mad Scientist 47. Yellow Skeleton 48. Purple Hunchback 48. Yellow Hunchback 38. Purple The Phantom Monster Mountain This was the first accessory released for Monster in My Pocket. It was accompanied by labels for display of the 48 Series 1 monsters. Nothing like it appears to have been released for the follow-ups. The back had a cutout poster which contained the "and they're squishy" blurb, corrected the Hobgoblin/Ogre error and the spelling of Cerberus, as did the labels). Included inside was a cardboard stand for it to be stood up, rather than the optional wall hanging. Unfortunately, an attempt to remove this stand severely damages it (though not the plastic, mountainshaped frame) and destroys the adhesive pads. It did not contain any monsters, nor did it contain an insert. The box displays several alterations in spelling, some of them erroneous, others a bit surprising (such as "Quasimodo" replacing "Hunchback"--with a red Vampire shown in the position), however, the only changes retained were "Griffen," "Manticora," and "Catoplebas," the middle being the only one I can verify as a correct alternative spelling. Red Spring-Heeled Jack Monster in my Pocket Board Game (Decipher) Despite the box, all opened copies I could observe have had these four in these colors, though reports exist of an orange Griffin and a purple Behemoth (though the latter would not be anything unique). 4. Cyan Behemoth 10. Orange Triton 11. Magenta Kraken 12. Jungle Green Tengu Series 1 was also released in "neon" colors, though in this case they were thistle, chartreuse, orange, and neon green. These were similar, but not quite identical, to Super Scary (SS) purple, yellow, and red, while neon green is a brighter and less yellow, but otherwise similar to the original green. Side-by-side comparison shows these four colors to be unique, despite similarities. Aside from the few I got in the 24 packs, I was not able to obtain any. If anyone is aware of how these were packaged, let me know. Frosted Wheat Squares Premiums 1. Cyan Great Beast 1. Dark Green Great Beast 3. Magenta Werewolf 5. Cyan Griffin 7. Magenta Cockatrice 23. Dark Green Hobgoblin 23. Orange Hobgoblin 24. Dark Green Windigo [cannot verify] 34. Orange Windigo Battle Cards All photographs I have seen contain either a green The Beast and red Witch (as mine has) or a red The Beast and a green Witch (as Andrew Sylvester's has). It also contained a die, 48 cards and instructions, in a clear plastic storage case. Bootlegs I am not aware of any Monster in My Pocket bootlegs. However, the series of vending machine "Sticky Monsters" is notable. In addition to those listed, the card in the machine depicted a badly caricatured MIMP likeness of Mad Scientist, and a non-MIMP likeness of Ghost. These are flat, translucent, corded, sticky stretchers (the machine I got these from more often than not gave me many sticky hands I would be more than willing to trade), which are based on the simple line drawings that appear on the March of the Mini Monsters poster, the instruction booklet, etc., that were the basis for the comicbook centerspreads and trading card paintings. The exceptions were Witch, which was a similar likeness, but rode on her broom, and Skeleton, which did not have a skull in its hand, but merely had its hand open. It is also less detailed and a mirror image. Internal to the plastic bubbles were small plastic bags, which I tape shut with the monsters flat and visible inside. Series 2 figures were also released with SpaghettiOs, which contained some exclusives, which included 62. Orange Ganesha and possibly others. The following are not known to exist: Green Dragon, Cyan Warlock, Orange Warlock, Green Ymir, Orange Swamp Beast, Cyan Swamp Beast, Cyan Golem, Magenta Golem, Magenta Scorpion Man, Magenta Loch Ness Monster, Cyan Tarasque, Cyan Bishop Fish, and Orange Herne the Hunter. Monster Cauldron According to Andrew Lyall, this Series 2 item deleted Ganesha and another, replacing them with Series 1 monsters, but otherwise contained Series 2 monsters and Battle Cards, inluding a glow in the dark Bloody Bones and one other. It had room to store additional monsters. He discovered this in Scotland, and the Ganesha deletion suggests this was a UK only release. Series 3 These were packed in Shreddies cereal in Canada, and at least two, 74, Abominable Snowman and 75. Anubis, came as a special deal at Shoney's in October of 1992, when the H-B cartoon was shown on ABC stations in some markets. Whether they received a general release has yet to be ascertained. Known figures include: 73. Green Leviathan 73. Orange Leviathan 74. Cyan Abominable Snowman 74. Green Abominable Snowman 74. Magenta Abominable Snowman 74. Orange Abominable Snowman 75. Green Blemmyea 81. Magenta Blemmyea 81. Orange Blemmyea Other known Series 3 monsters are Sciapod, Bas Celik (possibly spelled "Bash Tchelik"), and The Electronic Monster (according to Harvey Comics editor-in-chief Sid Jacobson), and probably Cynocephaloid. I am not aware of anything more than illustrations for these monsters, and nothing of the third. The third series may have been cancelled due to copyright violation on The Electronic Monster, a dream-manipulating machine from Charles Eric Maine's novel _Escapement_, which he adapted to film in 1960, (and which was retitled _The Electronic Monster_ for U.S. release--the film is British). It is unlikely that rights were paid, and this fact may have shut down the series, particularly given that the next series, despite the number jump, is indicated as Series 3 in many American promotional materials, including Monster Mailer #1. Series 3 is distinguishable from Series 2 in that Series 3 figures say "©MEG '91/CHINA" whilst Series 2 figures say "©MEG/CHINA" (slash indicating line break. Series 2 figures have their numbers underlined while Series 3 figures do not. Upon comparison the colors are not exactly the same, but are slightly richer than those of Series 2 (a similar statement can be made comparing Neon Series 1 to Series 4--side by side they are noticeably different). Super Scary Haunted House This was most definitely made, but it may never have made it past the Toy Fair. _Toy Values Monthly_/_Collectible Toys & Values_ referred to it at the Haunted Mansion, and it most likely resembled an abused dollhouse. Judging from the line illustration, it would have been accompanied by three figures. Super Scary Monster Pouch Despite the name, this came with two (I believe) Series 1 monsters. I am almost certain one was a green Harpy, but this was the one Monster in My Pocket item I never really considered purchasing, so I don't have it. Series 5 Based on the colors displayed in the insert, there were also six- packs like Series 4. Super Creepies 12-Pack Tarantula Super Creepies 12-Pack CrabSpider 121. Mint Green Tarantula 126. Series 6 These are known to have come in a 24-pack window box as well as in two-packs with a full set of 24 Fact Cards. There were also 6- packs, which were not secret: all were visible. In the United States, they appeared briefly in Hardee's Kids Meals, though I never heard about them. Two Packs 145. Deep Green Tyrannosaurus rex and 163. Purple Struthiomimus 150. Deep Green Spinosaurus and 167. Red Lambeosaurus 166. Bright Green Parasaurolophus and 165. Orange Monoclonius Six Packs These supposedly produced a complete set with four, but there were probably six. Like the alternate-color reissue of series 1, these were reissued as "Secret Skeleton Dinosaurs," with their bones painted on their skin. Tyrannosaurus rex Set Apatosaurus Set 145. Green Tyrannosaurus rex 151. Orange Iguanadon 155. Red Pteranodon ?156.? Yellow ?Dimetrodon? 163. Purple Struthiomimus 168. Green Baby Protoceratops Triceratops Set Stegosaurus Set 148. Green Plateosaurus 154. Orange Cave Man 157. Red Sabre-Tooth Tiger 159. Green Chasmosaurus 163. Yellow Struthiomimus The series was reissued as "Secret Skeleton," in which cold water brought out a color change revealing bones. Series 7 This series featuring "Space Aliens" had fanciful designs suggesting the creatures were made up, rather than retaining the concept of real creatures. However, I could be mistaken. I was vaguely familiar with Charun, Thunderdell, Hanuman, and Yama, and very familiar Jersey Devil, Wildman of China, and Imp, yet did not recognize them when I saw the sets on the shelf. One resembles the creature Loren Coleman named the "Dover Demon," which was witnessed by several Dover, MA, high school students, albeit not with the weapons the MIMP figure has, another resembles Garuda, the Hindu bird deity under Vishnu, and Chupacabra, the famous "Goat sucker" of Puerto Rico (not to mention the green robot that might be a Dero). Another appears to be a Banth from Edgar Rice Burroughs's _The Gods of Mars_. The figures did not have numbers molded on them (which is the case for Monster Sports Stars, Puppy, Kitty, Pony, and Bunny in My Pocket figures) and inserts have not been found. Series W, A, B, C The Monster Wrestlers in My Pocket and Monster Sports Stars in My Pocket were fully painted, so no variations are expected and none are known. They were available only through Kellogg's Frosties (and then as a special offer, not in the box). Oddly enough, there were figures of Tony the Tiger. You'd never find that in your MIMP Frosted Wheat Squares box! The full series of 39 wrestlers was marketed in the UK. The wrestlers were made by Corinthian Marketing (which had merged with Morrison Entertainment Group) in association with Vivid Imaginations. The Sports Stars were made by Vivid Imaginations. Information about the Series 2 Cauldron, Series ? Haunted Mansion, and Series 1 Monster Pouch are still need. There were at least four Monster in My Pocket Super Scary Howlers, each a significant good monster: Vampire, The Monster, Swamp Beast, and Werewolf. Unfortunately, the five inch figures were inarticulate, even to the heads which appeared to be. This was because they were hard plastic and contained LEDs, while the rest of the figure was made from soft vinyl. The color schemes were also disappointing for fans of the comic book. All of the following toys were manufactured by Irwin, under license from Morrison Entertainment Group. Like the Wrestlers and Sports Stars, they were fully painted, and are not distinguished by color. Morrison was up to its old trick of repainting (perhaps you remember Mer Man—>Stinkor and Beast Man—>Moss Man?), but these were indicated by the twin with the same number and a lower case a (though with a different name). They are all copyrighted 1995, though much of the packaging says 1997. I do not have as much information about these as I would like. For a more complete (but still incomplete) listing of individual figures, visit implist.html. The numbers appear on associated cards, not on the figure itself, which only has "©MEG/1995". English only, English/French, English/Spanish, and English/French/Spanish editions exist, all sold interchangeably in the U.S. This guide is in no way complete. Puppy in My Pocket Each figures comes with a card with the name and number of the figure. The card evaluates each puppy in four areas, similar to Battle Cards. In this case, they are obedience, huggability, intelligence, and alertness. Kitty in My Pocket Much like Puppy in My Pocket, but the criteria on the cards are now huggability, playfulness, cuteness, and purr-sonality. Pony in My Pocket Like the above two, the criteria on the cards now being intellignece, speed, beauty, and huggability. Bunny in My Pocket Packs Unlike the monsters, these are on blisters with all figures visible. Because of blister moldings, it is clear that packing patterns continue. #31047 Babies at Home These contain a mother, four babies, birth certificate, and either love seat or hearth. St. Bernard Family, with pink and yellow hearth 112. Sian lying down crawling hand under chin sprawling Dalmatian Family, with light blue & pink love seat 115. Unlike Battle Beasts these were done with red paint, with no chance of loss like labels could be. The figures were marked for 8 and up because of a heart brooch included with each set, equipped with a functional sharp point to pin it on clothes. All of these were repaints of earlier figures. #34511 Puppy in My Pocket, with cyan "Please Cuddle Me Brooch" 129. Zoe (Best Puppy!) [repaint of Naomi] 130. The figures show wounds in cold water, which disappeared with warmth and a sheet of adhesive bandage stickers. The standard cars instead had medical cards with temperature, appetite, energy level, and huggability as the four new criteria. The numbering is consistent with each range. Baby Surprise in My Pocket These figures came with a mother (the largest In My Pocket figures yet, save for the Howlers), a home, and two visible offspring. One, two, or three more were hidden in a clear thin plastic egg (thinner than Easter compartmental eggs), separated with a piece of Styrofoam. These were contained in (apparently random) colored bags (as if bundles dropped by a stork). The babies needed names, and there was a birth certificate for giving such information, as well as date, time, and place of birth, and weight at birth. Each baby was in a different position, which I will try to describe. In most cases, the packaging suggests no more than four different, and each of mine only had four. Further information about these is pending. Asst. #33110 - Series 1 Penguin Family 1. Penny wings folded across chest wings spread as if to fly lying back leaning forward Swan Family 2.
